I served in Vietnam in the USMC in 1970. Here it is 30 some years later, and I am reaping the effects of agent orange. We were all told by our government that this was safe and would not have any health effects on us. Our government lied and should take a look at what agent orange has done to the veterans and their families. No, we didn't die in Vietnam, but we should have because our death sentence is carried home in agent orange. I call all Vietnam Veterans "the walking dead". I know many vets that have already died from agent orange and they were only in their 50's. We are all having such a difficult time trying to get compensation from VA even when we get on our knee's and beg, we are denied. Our government is waiting for more Vets to die so they will not have to give us money and the other benefits we deserve.
I personally filed a claim for hypertension and diabetes and was given 20%. I have appealed to the board of veterans in Washington, DC. from agent orange I now have:osteoarthritis of the C-spine,hyperlipidemia,peripheral vascular disease with distal small vessel disease, porphyria cutanea tarda(which I developed while in country and was put in quarantine with blisters all over my body and they had no idea what is was), chloracne, PTSD, my feet crack open and my heel is swollen with dead skin. Agent orange is like a vicious circle, it has carried over to my children and my grandchildren and will keep going from generation to generation.
What are we suppose to do, give up and lay down and die? No, we need to unite and go after what we deserve, we need to help each other. Our government needs a wake up call! They benefit from our tax money. They are helping Vietnam and their people who were exposed, our money is going over there. It needs to stop and it needs to stop now!!! We as Veterans of every war need to stand up for ourselves and let the government know that we will not take this run around anymore! God bless each of you and your fight for compensation you so rightly deserve.
